Welcome to Kallista Music Studio

Kallista Music Studio is a serene place in the Dandenongs to start a music journey.

“I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning” ― Plato

Music is for living, it is not just a whim.

If you have found yourself at this website, you or a member of your family is keen to learn an instrument or sing.

Sandra Waldron

Owner and Teacher

I believe that music is vital to the development of a young mind, as well a wonderful release for adults. For me I am immersed in a world of sound, often challenged by it, but totally happy.

Teaching gives me insight into my own playing and vice versa for the student by continually problem solving and learning.

At Kallista Music Studio you’ll learn:

At Kallista Music Studio I teach Flute and Saxophone (AMEB AND VCE)  Theory and Aural Music is taught co-incidentally along with their lessons, or more formally if required.

Piano is taught up to and includes intermediate level.

I teach contemporary singing – (these lessons can included very basic ukulele for some fun musical accompaniment)

SAXOPHONE

At Kallista Music Studio starting age is preferred over 10. Whilst playing the saxophone is fun it is also a serious instrument. The alto saxophone is taught widely and is fab to play, but think about learning the tenor if you like a big deeper sound. Then there is the little soprano!! The saxophone was used a lot in the 80’s to play instrumental solos, but is some much more than that. With correct mouthpieces and reeds, the saxophone can play classical through to pop music.

FLUTE

At Kallista Music Studio starting age is preferred over 10. The flute is a truly amazing instrument to learn. It has a pure sound that be manipulated to suit the style of music you play, from classical, jazz, pop and contemporary.

CONTEMPORARY VOICE

At Kallista Music Studio starting age is preferred over 12. Everyone can sing, but not everyone has the confidence to do so. Singing lessons can give you that confidence!

PIANO

At Kallista Music Studio starting age is preferred over 7, depending on the child. The piano has developed through the centuries into a truly a great instrument to learn to fully understand what music is about.

GROUPS

Playing with other people is fun, whilst it honing your skills as a musician. This is ‘invitation only‘ and is suspended indefinitely at the moment.

I cannot recommend Sandra enough. She's an amazing human being who brings to the music industry a very large range of knowledge and experience. I've known Sandra throughout my whole high school years and she encouraged and pushed me out of my comfort zone as she knew I was capable of more. I thoroughly enjoyed all my classes with her and I learnt a lot as well helping her conduct the school orchestra and joining in along playing in different musicals. Sandra inspires everyone she teaches and she is one of the best teachers out there.

Where do I start... I have known Sandra for more than 14 years since I was a teenager starting high school. Throughout the years as my flute teach, Sandra introduced me to a variety of different music genres and techniques, guided me through many AMEB exams and most importantly she played such an important mentor to me as a teenager. Sandra genuinely cares for her students and is always very understanding and encouraging. Her passion for music definitely shows throughout the way she teaches. She has inspired me to continue to play the flute today. Kallista Music Studio is a tranquil and inviting place - the perfect place to play and enjoy music. Thank you to Sandra for all that you have done for me over the years.

Sandra taught my music classes - including VCE Music - for several years when I was at Mater Christi College in Belgrave. She also conducted the school orchestra and other large bands that I have been a part of, such as the yearly christmas carols. Sandra is a great teacher: supportive, a clear communicator, and firm but encouraging. I highly recommend Kallista Music Studio!

Our daughter was one of Sandra’s students for 6 years, and it was 6 years of nothing but joy. Sandra has an ability to encourage beginning musicians and include them in a music culture that gives them a lifelong love of music, as well as challenge, develop and play alongside highly accomplished students.

I picked up saxophone and took Sandra's lessons. She helped me find the pieces that suit my level and taught me both technical aspects and musical expressions. My favourite time was when playing sax duet pieces with her 🙂 I'd highly recommend her for anyone who wants to enjoy music!

I have been a student with Sandra Waldron since I was 13 years old and am continuously learning new things and being inspired by her skills and magic. Learning from Sandra, I have successfully achieved 7 AMEB practical exams whilst being supported through VCE Music theory and practical exams. The Kallista Music Studio is a fun and wonderful space to learn in where we divide the time learning new skills whilst enjoying and just having fun with music. It is a space where I am challenged with new skills and pieces to play however it is a space I can turn up to just play even if I haven't practiced in weeks! I highly recommend Kallista Music Studio as a space to not only learn music but to just have fun and feel good!
