Sandra started her musical life learning piano at eight and then flute at twelve, graduating with a Bachelor of Education in classroom and instrumental (woodwind) music at twenty-one. During that time she started her private practice.
Sandra has taught woodwind and classroom music from Year 7-12 in schools for over 30 years.
Along the way she has been musical director for many many musical productions and variety performances. As Head of Music at Mater Christi College in Belgrave Sandra grew the music area into a widely acclaimed program incorporating ensembles that ranged from orchestras, jazz bands, choirs and specialty ensembles. She stepped down from this position to focus on teaching instrumental music both at school and at Kallista Music Studio.
In the local community Sandra has directed a Sweet Adeline’s (female barbershop) group, and taken part in community/school productions and performances, either in the chorus or involved in the band or orchestra. She has conducted the orchestra and singers at the Monbulk Christmas Carols for many years.
For ten years Sandra has been a member for of the ‘Blackwood Trio,’ a local band which plays covers from the 60’s onwards (a variety of music including jazz) featuring on woodwind and vocals. Sandra performs in the flute duo ‘Zephyr.’
